Method

  1. Step 1Bake the puff pastry20 min

    Bake 825 g puff pastry at 400°F for 20 minutes until golden and crispy.

  2. Step 2Prepare the custard cream

    In a saucepan, whisk together 950 ml milk, 1 cup sugar, 2 eggs, 3 tbsp flour, and 1 tsp vanilla sugar over medium heat. Stir continuously until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in 7 tbsp butter until melted and smooth.

    Note

    Stir constantly to prevent lumps from forming in the custard.

  3. Step 3Assemble the cake

    Once the puff pastry has cooled, break it into pieces. Layer the pastry pieces with the custard cream in a serving dish, alternating between pastry and cream.

    Refrigerate the assembled cake for at least 2 hours to allow the layers to set and the pastry to soften slightly. Serve chilled.

    Note

    The cake tastes best when chilled overnight.
