  1. Étape 1Make the cardamom syrup

    Mix 100 ml water, 50 g brown sugar, 50 g white sugar and vanilla extract. Bring to a boil, remove from heat and add 4 cardamom pods. Let it cool.

    Beat 180 g softened butter with 50 g brown sugar and 50 g white sugar until smooth and creamy.

    Add the 4 eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.

  4. Étape 4Mix wet ingredients

    Add vanilla extract, 220 g Greek yogurt and a pinch of salt. Mix until combined.

  5. Étape 5Fold in dry ingredients

    Sift in 240 g flour and 2 tsp baking powder. Mix gently until just combined.

  6. Étape 6Add syrup, nuts and figs

    Add some of the cooled cardamom syrup, crushed almonds or walnuts, and fresh figs. Fold everything together gently.

    Note

    Walnuts work too if you prefer them over almonds.

  7. Étape 7Bake the cake45 min

    Transfer batter to a greased baking dish and bake at 180°C for 40–50 minutes. Check doneness with a toothpick inserted in the center; it should come out clean.

  8. Étape 8Cool and serve

    Let the cake cool completely, then serve with vanilla ice cream and the remaining cardamom syrup drizzled on top.
